Corona Spread: A Deliberate Attempt by Tableeghi Jamaat?

ASAD ANWER

Our country has once again been subjected to a biased outrage for a particular event which took place recently. The Tableegi Jamaat was undoubtedly wrong in their place. They should have taken a precaution and handled the situation with more maturity than they actually did. The leader, Maulana Saad was also wrong in his place to call his followers for praying at the mosque (to get rid of the Corona virus) in the name of Allah.

The major question which lies before us is whether the blame should be completely put on the Tableegi Jamaat or the government should also be made liable for their carelessness at the time when they did not take any action for screening the people at the airport who entered from outside the country. The government and the police authorities should also be questioned about how (in spite of them being present there on lockdown duty) did the followers enter the area.

The Jamat has claimed that they had been in touch with the local authorities and had already written letters to them, seeking permission for vehicles to vacate the area, when the lockdown was announced.  Delhi Police has counter-claimed that they sent two notices to the mosque committee but they still didn't mend their ways. Notices were sent on March 23 and March 28.

The mainstream media which is always in search of something to hide the failure of the government (and to of course increase its TRP) got one of its most likeable debates, the Hindu-Muslim debate. The problem began when the mass-media and the social media tried to paint the whole situation into a complete communal color. They even took a step further to term the whole Muslim community as ‘Jihadi’ and termed the incident as ‘Jihad’, ‘Corona Jihad’ and what not. Leaving a few, none of the journalists dared to ask questions from the government. Another questionable thing and a major problem was the selective outrage of the people. No-one questioned other such gatherings, but this very incident was blamed.
The media should have taken the stand by questioning the authority and should have also reported this incident with fair thoughts keeping aside religious grounds.
The people are wrong, but there has been carelessness shown by the government too which should have been questioned. Another incident took place where a man returned from Dubai and attended the funeral of her mother on 18th March after he was tested corona positive and because of him a whole village, of around 2600 people were home quarantined for 14 days. (Click the link below to read the complete story)

Think of the failure of the government in checking foreigners, but this was never put to question by media as it could have clearly shown the incompetence of government agencies.
The media should get back to its ethics and should report every incident with fair mind and should question the government.
