Earth Day
MD. WAHEED AZAM
Every year on 22nd April we celebrate ‘Earth
Day’.
Earth Day commemorates Earth’s unique
place in the universe. In the solar system, Earth is the only planet which has
implausible biodiversity. Earth Day is a day to inform and teach people on how
to protect the planet this is our home. The first Earth Day was organized in
1970 with an aim to promote the thoughts of ecology, reverence for existence on
earth, and highlighting growing concern over pollution of the soil, air, and
water. Earth Day is observed in nearly 140 nations. The day is celebrated by outdoor
feats, exhibits, street fairs, skits and television programs that are centered
on environmental issues. On Earth Day 2016, the landmark Paris Agreement was
signed by the United States, China, and some 120 other countries. This signing
satisfied a key requirement for the entry into force of the historic draft
climate protection treaty adopted by consensus of the 195 nations present at
the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris. The main aim of
Paris Agreement was By the end of 2020, global CO2 emissions need to have
dropped by 7.6% and continue to fall by 7.6% each year for us to have keep
global heating under 1.5C° it took a hit in year 2019 where there's was economical
- political rivalry start between China and America and it's seems like the
goal will not achieved in 2020. But in year 2020 things became way more
surprised year 2020 has been off to a terrible start with Covid-19. But it's
seems like that it’s a terrible start for humanity when Covid-19 declared as a
pandemic so government apply the lockdown for protection and that lockdown is
now very helpful for our planet. In the lockdown everything is closed. And it’s
helping the planet shutdowns have unintended climate benefits: cleaner air,
clearer water. Countries that have been under stringent lockdowns to stop the
spread of the coronavirus have experienced an unintended benefit. The outbreak
has, at least in part, contributed to a noticeable drop in pollution and greenhouse
gas emissions in some countries. “If we can think about how to prepare for
climate change like a pandemic, maybe there will be a positive outcome to all
of this," said Christopher Jones, lead developer of the Cool Climate Network,
an applied research consortium at the University of California, Berkeley.
"We can help prevent crises in the future if we are prepared. I think
there are some big-picture lessons here that could be very useful. And there are several reports by NASA and
European space agency's that a drop in air pollution rate we can say that
Covid-19 is giving us a head start in the cut down in CO2 emissions. Earth Day 2020 is giving us a lesson that we
have to try our best to save our planet and this lockdown is showing that with little efforts we can save the planet and save our home.
Editor’s Note: Happy
Earth Day to all! Let’s protect Mother Earth and make it a better place for
future generations.
If you also have something to write about or speak about, do
it now. We encourage our audience to be the ‘voice of change’.
