Mental Health during the Time of Unrest

ANONYMOUS

During the times of turmoil of any kind, political, natural, and financial or any other, it becomes difficult to not only maintain a routine, but to maintain the mental peace required to follow one. For example, a pandemic such as this one.

Working men and women, old people, children, everyone is at home. With businesses shutting down, a lot of people losing their jobs, and ever increasing mortality rate, everyone's mental health is deeply affected. However, that in no way means that we have been given a break. For us students, classes are going on online and assignments are being given almost every day. It is difficult to focus on such tasks and there is no way out of this. It is easy for us to read blogs and posts that suggest making a routine and using this time to get creative and help with the housework. However, actually doing it all itself requires a lot of energy, emotional and mental energy, which such times drain us of. This is why we should realize that it is important to take breaks. Not only from academic or housework, but from the constant news updates or anything that makes us feel terrible. It is okay to sit in a room doing nothing. It is okay to not want to talk to people even when it is assumed that most of us are 'free'. It is absolutely okay to not want to use the internet or watch the news. It is okay and important to put your mental health first in times like these.
